Twitter - the misunderstood

I remember when the internet came to fame. Of course I do not recall Al Gore involved at the time but that is quite another story. The biggest question was "How are we gonna make any money with this thing?" It wasn't too long after that, that pay sites ie; adult came into play and then the likes of Amazon came along. Today the internet accounts for 22% of household spending including bill paying etc. (That figure I did make up) but you get the point. Now the internet is so important we have it on our phones. Who would ever have thought.

Not meaning to get away from the topic, now comes the new kid aptly named twitter. When you send out a "micro blog" that is called a tweet. Now all the hip and cool people are sending out tweets about going to the club with friends. "I am taking my kid to the doctor." "I just made breakfast for the family". Come on who really cares? Of course it might make people feel cool, like the are the new celebs, or some stupid drivel like that.

So I never quite got it..... what use is this twitter? Well dear friends it is the new medium of bringing pertinent news and information to a unique group. I was fortunate enough to have this shown to me by someone with incredible forsight into the digital future. Pat Allen was so excited to share the power of twitter. Her site is http://www.rocktheboatmarketing.com/ She is a marketing expert in the financial industry. We all know that finances are anything but funny and playful and most people in that industry are pretty serious players. Even moreso with the developments of the last year. Follow Pat on twitter and you will be amazed at the information she is sharing.

More on how to use Twitter- I am hoping that Pat will perhaps chime in at sometime and bring some added wisdom and insight. I will admit I am only now "just getting it".

Using twitter, it's power, it potential, keep an eye

Here is a great article on how to understand the potential of twitter and how it can help you get your business- have a look and have a good read. http://tinyurl.com/cyrnm9 I have to laugh because so many people use twitter to broadcast absolute drivel - like "my latte was cold" or I am walking the dog. Those people are absolutly missing the point.

The value of a good headshot for anyone.- doing business online or off

First off- I will admit upfront that yes I am a photographer that shoots quite a lot of CEO's and everyone else down the food chain's head shots. http://www.firstlightcreative.com/

In todays world we have much less face time than ever before. We have much less phone time, and most of our interaction seems to be more web or email based. I remember long ago hearing that one of the best things that you can do for yourself is get a good headshot. A great p.r. move. It will serve as an ice breaker, people will have some familiarity with you when they meet you for the first time. It will also shore up older relationships when you have not worked together for a time. So with today's social networking, ie: facebook, twitter, Linked in and websites, it is more important than ever to project a good professional image in your personal photograph.

Conversely, I think a horrible or stupid photo will work against you. We have all heared the stories about the guy or gal that didn't get the job because their photos on facebook or elsewhere had them in a "compromising position" While this discussion might seem obvious to some, it was born from a discussion I had with a client just yesterday and her need for a good strong professional image. I do hope this will convince some of you the need for a new image. If I can help let me know. I should also add that all photos I do will be retouched and enhanced to your best advantage. Cheers, Michael Candee
